This Week's Random Top 10....Christmas Movies

I am planning to have a few weekly blogs that I post and Random Weekly Top 10 will be one of them. So for this first installment of the Random Top10, in the spirit of the season....Christmas Movies.  I have included a good variety ranging from wholesome family entertainment to down right grimy but extremely lolzy! Here goes nothin....

Number 10......

I'll start out with a nice family movie. I included the Polar Express for nostalgia mostly. This was one of my favorite books as a kid.

"Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can't see."

Number 9.....

This one made this for the simple reason it's a holiday classic.

"You call this a happy family? Why do we have to have all these kids?"

Number 8....

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies, especially from my childhood. I had a tough time deciding between the muppets version or the Disney version. In the end the Muppets prevailed!

"Gonzo: Hello! Welcome to the Muppet Christmas Carol! I am here to tell the story.
Rizzo the Rat: And I am here for the food."

Number 7....Bad Santa

As promised here's one that's not even close to wholesome holiday entertainment. If it you haven't seen this movie I highly recommend it! It's not Christmas Vacation but you'll def get more then a few laughs out of it!

"I said, "Next," goddamn it! This is not the DMV!" - Willie, Bad Santa's bad elf!

Number 6....Charlie Brown Christmas

Ah.... There I go again with the nostalgia. This is one of my all time favorite movies from my childhood. I remember watching this after the last day of school before winter break, still in my uniform, totally excited for one of my favorite times of year.

"Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year".... I actually just got chills posting this quote, like I said "painfully nostalgic"

Number 5.....Miracle on 34th Street

Ok so it's back to wholesome family entertainment. This one makes my list yet again for the memories. Grand mom always exposed me and my bro to older, classic movies. This was one of them. I love the scene when they find the cane......

"Well, I hate to disagree with you, but not only IS there such a person, but here I am to prove it."

Number 4....Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Another one that brings me back to my childhood and that feeling that only a kid can truly appreciate during the holiday season.

"From what I see now, that will cut through the murkiest storm they can dish up. What I'm trying to say is, Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight? "

Number 3...A Christmas Story

I know it's kind of cliche but I had to include this one. I seem to always end up watching it on Christmas Eve during that 24 hour marathon on TBS. It has become synonymous with Christmas and the whole experience so I had to include it! It also reminds me of Christmas morning 1985 when I thought I didn't get Castle Greyskull...

"My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master."

Number 2.... Home Alone

This makes the list for many reasons. It's hysterical, it takes me back to simpler times, and in my opinion is timeless. I still lol when I watch this movie!

Choosing just one quote from this movie was no easy task but here's one you can use all year long....

"Look whatcha did you little jerk!"

Number 1........ Drumroll please...........National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Ah good old Christmas Vacation. The quintessential holiday classic! Beloved by the masses! I have been laughing at this movie once a year since my grand mom first bought the VHS over two decades ago from K Mart. Unfortunately the Facebook masses feel it necessary to quote this classic to the point of excess but nothing will ever make this one irrelevant!

Now to choose a quote from this treasure trove of one liners, diatribes, and zingers......

"Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

Honorable mention.....The holiday classic .....JINGLE ALL THE WAY!

Even though this didn't make my official top ten, I couldn't entirely exclude this holiday gem. I mean come on it stars Ahhhhnold and Sinbad!

"Who told you you could eat my cookies? Put that cookie down, now!"

So there you have it. My first random top 10. I'd love to hear your input. Let me know if I missed any of your all time favorites!

Here's wishing everyone a great holiday season!

  1. Jingle All the Way = #1!!!! Watched it somewhat recently and can't believe I liked that movie so much when I was young. It has some great parts but the end was so cheesy I almost couldn't watch it all.
