Gotta love those one word League Assignments! This week it's: "Robots"

I decided a fun way to approach this wide opened topic would be a top 10. So here goes....

The Nerd Nook's Top Ten Favorite Pop Culture Robots

#10: Atlas and Peabody (Aperature Science Robot Test Subjects)

I'm a pretty big fan of Portal and really enjoyed the addition of 2 player online coop. It added a very cool spin to an already awesome game. Playing as these quirky robots, the team must utilize 4 portals now (instead of the usual 2) to solve a wide array of test chambers.

#9 GLaDOS

I can't talk about Portal robots without mentioning the maniacal villian robot from both Portal games. GLaDOS' sole function is to create test chambers to be used for just that, testing. All the way through she is responsible for some of the funniest quotes from any game I've ever played or heard of for that matter. Her crowning achievement at the end of Portal is her singing of "Still Alive". 

#8 Rosie

Being an 80s kid, I caught the tail end of some great old school shows still being shown in reruns. I'm talking classics like Mr. Ed, Denice The Menace, The Lone Ranger, The Flintstones, and of course The Jetsons. I couldn't leave off Rosie. Who wouldn't love to own a robot with her capabilities!

#7 Wall - E

Being from Philly, I love a good under dog story. This movie was clever and enjoyable. I really liked watching this silly little robot go on an intergalactic adventure. My affinity for this guy my have something to do with his striking resemblance to the next robot on this list.....

#6 Johnny Five

 What's not to like about Johnny Five? He got a great sense of humor, can dance, cook, sing, and loves the BeeGees! As a kid my brother and I loved Short Circuit. It was a fun movie that captures that carefree 80s feel. I might have to dig this out soon and watch it. I can feel a jolt of nostalgia comin on!

#5 Optimus Prime

 As a boy growing up in the 80s is was nearly impossible not to think Optimus Prime was awesome. I had the original G1 Optimus and was a huge fan. He had that awesomely commanding voice and transformed in a truck. What else could you ask for? I was about 4 years old when the movie came out, and I can still remember watching his vivid red fade to grey and doing everything I could to hold back the tears! 30ish years later Optimus is still one bad ass robot!

#4 Cylons

 The new Battlestar Gallactica was a pretty epic show. A friend of mine turned me onto it last summer and I literally binge watched my through the entire series in about a week. Cylons were a very interesting and dynamic enemy. It was bad enough worrying about the ones you could see and identify. On top of that they knew they were also hiding among them. Made for a very great TV show.

#3 C3 P0

 I suspect the next two robots will find their way into several other League posts this week. The Rebels wouldn't have had a chance without this guy!

#2 R2 D2

 This silly little droid is probably the first robot that popped in my head when I read this week's assignment. The droid that started it all! R2 saved the day more then a few times and was a pivotal character in the Star Wars trilogy.

#1 T-800

A friend of mine and I were just discussing T2 the other day over breakfast and how it's still relevant. What an awesome movie. The T-800 good or bad was one bad ass robot!

Best On Screen Pop Culture Romances

 So I suppose love is in the air with Valentine's Day only two days away. I figured it's been a while since I posted a top 10 so I decided "what the heck, I'll do a top 10 pop culture/on screen romances" post. Well as I brainstormed this list I quickly realized 10 wasn't gonna hack it.....so this will just be a list of my favorites.....in no particular order.....here goes.....

Top 10 - 80s Cop Movies!

Ok, been a while since I did a top 10. I was thinking for a bit about what could be a good topic to bring it back....80s Cop Movies is what I came up with.

Now anyone out there who grew up in the 80s knows there was no shortage of Cop related goodness. From dramas to comedies and everything in between, the 80s knew cop movies! Here are my top 10 as well as a few honorable mentions (like I said no shortage!) Might wanna pop down and start the Untouchables theme before proceeding....add to the whole experience =)

10. Red Heat

9. 48 Hours

8. RoboCop

This movie is just plain bad ass.

7. Lethal Weapon

 This movie started a pretty sweet franchise! Mel in the 80s was pretty tough to ignore.

6. Police Academy

5. Beverly Hills Cop

After seeing this movie I immediately wanted to be a cop (the Ferrari sealed it!)

4. The Untouchables

 For this one I had to use the theme rather then just a poster. The music in this movie elevates it considerably in my opinion. Sean Connery certainly helped too!

3. Black Rain

80s, 90s doesn't matter the decade or the genre....this is just plain incredible.

2. Die Hard

One of the best cop movies period. A gem for those who love to throw around quotes like myself!

1. Running Scared

As a kid me and my brother probably watched this movie 30 times. Absolutely loved this one! The song Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonald (was written for this movie) is my official start of summer anthem!

This Week's Top 5 - Games of 2012

Yup I know, normally I do a top ten. Well 2012 saw a pretty drastic decrease in my gaming all together.  I used to play almost everything big that was released, but lately I've become far more selective. More of my time has been spent on my collection, working on this blog, and getting my you tube channel going.  I actually enjoy this stuff much more and have devoted more time and effort to my recent endeavors.  That being said there were still 5 games I played this year that I really enjoyed. Here they are.....

Number 5 - Borderlands 2

I really enjoyed Borderlands. I love a good co op experience when I'm gaming.... Borderlands delivered that. The sequel added to an already excellent formula and didn't disappoint.  For the coop lol factor coupled with the lols provided by the trusty claptrap this one was worth the dough.

Number 4 - Angry Birds Star Wars

I mean this was a no-brainer.  Take Star Wars (one of the first loves in my life) add Angry Birds (first and only touch screen game I've been "addicted to") and you get pure awesomeness! Not to mention the appearance of some cool new collectible goodies likes these.....

Number 3 - Call of Duty Black Ops II

I used a COD zombies pic because that is one of the main reasons I get COD games.  I also really enjoy the over top campaigns.  I have had hours of lolzy times in Xbox parties playing zombie mode.

Number 2 - Assassin's Creed 3

I am a big fan of this franchise.  I have played all the games and was beginning to feel that things were getting a bit stale with Ezio.  The new setting and Assassin were a welcomed change. The Revolutionary War period is one that I find extremely interesting so this was easy to add to my top 5 list!

Number 1 - Halo 4

This was easy to place atop my top 5 of 2012. Honestly this would be easy to place on my top 5 of all time (and for a guy who has played TONS of games....that is saying something).  The campaign is, in one word, EPIC.  I love the multiplayer.  Nicely balanced and I actually have a positive K/D for once!  If you like shooters and havn't played this DO IT!

This Week's Random Top 10.....Christmas Vacation Quotes

So this weekend I had my annual viewing of the Holiday Classic and perennial favorite Christmas Vacation.  As I brainstormed ideas for my top ten I kept coming back to Christmas theme and then off course to Christmas Vacation.  So my random top 10 shall be my top 10 favorite quotes from Christmas Vacation.......

Number 10......

"put it over there with the others Greaseball!"

The classic scene when Clark gives his a- hole boss a gift that is shaped exactly like the rest of the gifts lined up behind him.

 

Number 9.......

 

"Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?"

 

Clark is obviously thrilled to have Eddie and Company in his home for his fun old fashioned family Christmas!

 

Number 8......

 

"Oh, the silent majesty of a winter's morn... the clean, cool chill of the holiday air... an asshole in his bathrobe, emptying a chemical toilet into my sewer... "

 

Number 7....

 

"Merry Christmas....shitter was full!"

I had to follow up the last quote with this gem!  Todd and Margo's reaction just adds to the awesomeness of this scene!

 

Number 6.....

Uncle Lewis is responsible for a few great quotes but this one is probably my favorite.

I love this quote. I've actually used it several times in real life situations!

Number 4 ......

The bulging descriptive gets me every time.

 

Number 3.....

I remember rewinding this scene over and over again on the old VCR with my big bro laughing like crazy!

These are two of the funniest rants in movie history in my opinion!
