<div style="text-align: center;">
What was one of your greatest deals?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a> For this week's League assignment we're writing about our best deal. Well for me it has to be my in house, hand painted, Mall Tour Playsets.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WkiSkRMAnY8/WD5DsRp5TGI/AAAAAAAAEbU/EF5tZrbcps0AnS9jXgRSW2J1x4M7_tEhwCLcB/s1600/32A0722B-78F9-4BAB-BECA-0EC21815DDE4_zpsqbz8clnz.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WkiSkRMAnY8/WD5DsRp5TGI/AAAAAAAAEbU/EF5tZrbcps0AnS9jXgRSW2J1x4M7_tEhwCLcB/s320/32A0722B-78F9-4BAB-BECA-0EC21815DDE4_zpsqbz8clnz.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That photo above is the image taken from the eBay listing that landed these beauties in my collection. To make a long story short I was sitting at a friends going down my saved searches list on eBay when I clicked on my "Castle Grayskull" search. The listings for these sets was there. I checked them out and immediately took advantage of the Buy It Now option of $250. Now<i> </i>I'm by no stretch an expert and had no idea if they were legit or not. I made sense of the impulsive choice for the chance that they'd be legit for that price. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I asked one person, who I would consider to be an expert and someone I trust that wouldn't message the seller with higher offers (something that has happened to me in the past), what he thought about the listing. After some digging he came back with a ton of info and photos and told me he had no doubt they were the real deal. This made me excited and nervous at the same time as the chance someone would go and offer more was still a distinct possibility especially given the fact that the completed listing had since be posted in various vintage collecting groups. The seller took a while to ship and even told me he had several offers after the fact that he turned down, but I did eventually get these guys in the mail! Kudos to the seller for his integrity and sticking to the deal!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now for the story on what these things are!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FuYYN6EZ0UU/WD5F6FENB0I/AAAAAAAAEbc/lymbTSD5DyMZP4-DTYjvcN_4IznJpRV8wCLcB/s1600/flyer.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FuYYN6EZ0UU/WD5F6FENB0I/AAAAAAAAEbc/lymbTSD5DyMZP4-DTYjvcN_4IznJpRV8wCLcB/s320/flyer.png" width="247" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By 1986 "Masters of the Universe" was a bonafide home run for Mattel. There was no end in sight for new characters, sets, and vehicles. Mattel had an idea for a cool, fun, and epically 80s way to unveil their upcoming lineup for their flagship toy line.... the "Masters of the Universe Mall Tour" was born!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EhAJiDCcTQQ/WD5GtlthbFI/AAAAAAAAEbg/3YOdtcN5XtcXXYFbQjCunW8_QJf23wdHQCLcB/s1600/0B32140F-576E-47C3-A914-A9C1232CFE69_zpsm3ecye7b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="122" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EhAJiDCcTQQ/WD5GtlthbFI/AAAAAAAAEbg/3YOdtcN5XtcXXYFbQjCunW8_QJf23wdHQCLcB/s400/0B32140F-576E-47C3-A914-A9C1232CFE69_zpsm3ecye7b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Basically it was an entire custom done set-up of the world of Eternia, complete with custom/handpainted sets, movable platforms, music, narrations, and even a screen simulated duel between He-Man and Skeletor. This "tour" traveled the country, setting up in malls where families could walk through and see what they'd undoubtedly be spending their money on in the near future! The beauty of all of this is some high tech dad from back in the day had the presence of mind to film the whole thing with his camcorder (which I'm assuming was huge given the year). Watch the video, it's awesome!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/5bYc6lvGnNM/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5bYc6lvGnNM?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's a few closeups of the sets along with photos of them in use during the show. These are the exact sets shown in the above video.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C2ISHWIxVrY/WD5IhxFm4AI/AAAAAAAAEbs/No7RVKXAj6k7FI5g76aKpny8dOZF6IXggCLcB/s1600/gray%2Bwater.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C2ISHWIxVrY/WD5IhxFm4AI/AAAAAAAAEbs/No7RVKXAj6k7FI5g76aKpny8dOZF6IXggCLcB/s320/gray%2Bwater.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This set still has quit a bit of the "terrain" stuck to the bottom. It is also connected using some sort of puddy rather than hinged like the production sets were.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7biRf2WF7Yc/WD5I4_bToGI/AAAAAAAAEb0/hRd6LSCY-TgJZoEnjIBvfT6TF5nUekYvQCLcB/s1600/FE31931A-EE46-42D8-AF66-891EFAF2755B_zpsc2ey9eob.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7biRf2WF7Yc/WD5I4_bToGI/AAAAAAAAEb0/hRd6LSCY-TgJZoEnjIBvfT6TF5nUekYvQCLcB/s320/FE31931A-EE46-42D8-AF66-891EFAF2755B_zpsc2ey9eob.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In use during the tour.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jMqAKxLK0vs/WD5JBQQv8iI/AAAAAAAAEb4/LN5fLSMx9JUjxu0EAyT2DY9l_Wq0rHkRQCLcB/s1600/snake%2Bwater.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jMqAKxLK0vs/WD5JBQQv8iI/AAAAAAAAEb4/LN5fLSMx9JUjxu0EAyT2DY9l_Wq0rHkRQCLcB/s320/snake%2Bwater.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What can you say about the paint job they did on this Snake Mountain?!? Like the Grayskull, it is glued together.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ccteVSEWwZw/WD5JkVkoRgI/AAAAAAAAEcA/l9dGpNSgNFAXv3c26eMJqV3WLiJXZki9gCLcB/s1600/snake%2Bin%2Buse.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ccteVSEWwZw/WD5JkVkoRgI/AAAAAAAAEcA/l9dGpNSgNFAXv3c26eMJqV3WLiJXZki9gCLcB/s320/snake%2Bin%2Buse.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In use during the tour...note the position of Terror Claws Skeletor and Moss Man on the right.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AgoL_ynUSdE/WD5JvEP3c_I/AAAAAAAAEcE/ydrbQsH77N4_WJY_etfnwk6o-1y408OLACLcB/s1600/7621B752-BDC7-452D-B939-BB2A20C98FA7_zps66gitzmx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AgoL_ynUSdE/WD5JvEP3c_I/AAAAAAAAEcE/ydrbQsH77N4_WJY_etfnwk6o-1y408OLACLcB/s320/7621B752-BDC7-452D-B939-BB2A20C98FA7_zps66gitzmx.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A glue print in the shape of Skeletor's boot where he was once stuck to the set for the tour. For a collector this is absolute gold and adds even more to the story these sets tell.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So that's it for my "Best Deal" post. Having grown up "MOTU" I'm thrilled to own this piece of "MOTU" history and at $250 bucks for the pair, I have to figure this was my BEST deal. Complete, loose production sets can sell for close to or sometimes more than 125 bucks a pop. With the artistry, history, and significance these sets possess, they are undoubtedly my BEST DEAL. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's a few more cool photos related to the tour.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This appears to be a flyer used in house by the company that designed and customized the tour.</div>

The tour during what looks to still be the pre production stage.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So that's it! I hope you enjoyed this post and watched the video I linked. It's a bit of 80s gold especially with the outfits!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
‘Tis the Halloween season!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
So we're officially into the month of October and of course Halloween is on the brain. That said, this week's assignment is monsters! I decided that I'd go with my favorite Halloween/Monster related McDonald's happy meal toys from my youth...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: orange;"><b>Halloween Buckets</b></span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
These buckets are a perfect example of the simple toys we grew up with that were amazing despite their simplicity!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="color: orange;"><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween McNugget Buddies</span></span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K0b7xiv23hs/V_LArtqNj1I/AAAAAAAAEag/tCyNnj5xytE3_LZNz9dSYJh3IBVPz7__ACLcB/s1600/halloween_mcnugget_buddies_by_shinmusashi44-d31dq8i.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K0b7xiv23hs/V_LArtqNj1I/AAAAAAAAEag/tCyNnj5xytE3_LZNz9dSYJh3IBVPz7__ACLcB/s320/halloween_mcnugget_buddies_by_shinmusashi44-d31dq8i.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: orange;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">Series one included some great monsters. There was a ghost, mummy, Frankstein, Pumpkin, Dracula, and Witch. They were basically hallow plastic nuggets with different faces with interchangeable costumes.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/9BE_dnb_mqY/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9BE_dnb_mqY?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: orange;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">There were additional waves released a few years later....</span></span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kx3GenLdh5g/V_LBTlPd4gI/AAAAAAAAEao/ShPXTtOfiv8ZOeiFueANs-n95Yy3b_BJgCLcB/s1600/1996-mcdonalds-halloween-mcnugget-buddies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kx3GenLdh5g/V_LBTlPd4gI/AAAAAAAAEao/ShPXTtOfiv8ZOeiFueANs-n95Yy3b_BJgCLcB/s320/1996-mcdonalds-halloween-mcnugget-buddies.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This wave wasn't as exciting in my opinion. Hard to compete with those iconic monsters of wave 1!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/KL5BASMN36c/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KL5BASMN36c?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So that's my take on the monsters topic. I really do love these old McDonald's toys. Halloween themed aside, they had tons of awesome Happy Meals toys when I was growing up.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Ben knows what he's gotta do.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /><b>#2: "May the force be with you."</b></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
About as iconic as a one line movie quote can be.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#1: "The force is with you, young Skywalker....but you are not a Jedi yet."</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wEyqdeRlOYs/V-2xJ4XXvTI/AAAAAAAAEZ0/fXwaZFETY-E_zQxo05yBBe41uMm718opQCLcB/s1600/2016-01-15%2B05-18-35%2B%252B00001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wEyqdeRlOYs/V-2xJ4XXvTI/AAAAAAAAEZ0/fXwaZFETY-E_zQxo05yBBe41uMm718opQCLcB/s320/2016-01-15%2B05-18-35%2B%252B00001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Everything about this scene is amazing!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So that's it for my top ten favorite "Star Wars" quotes. I, of course, have countless other lines I love to use. This list could easily go on!</div>

<a href="http://coolandcollected.com/pop-culture-league-challenge-aliens-among-us/"><img alt="http://coolandcollected.com/pop-culture-league-challenge-aliens-among-us/" border="0" height="96" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6oshCxWlM0c/V-GmyKN7VkI/AAAAAAAAEXc/ZadZtnZQCmoVrGBvJregmvF2TBSNPc_ggCLcB/s400/supes%2Bleague.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For this week's assignment from the league it's:<br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Aliens Among Us</span></h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
“If aliens visit us, the outcome would be
much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for
the Native Americans.” –Stephen Hawking</div>
<hr />
<a name='more'></a>So I spent a bit of time considering what to write about for this week's league topic and finally settled on Superman. There were a few factors that lead me to this choice.<br />
1. Since basically birth Superman has been my favorite fictional/pop culture character<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gEKMxnBF5VI/V-GnzVHGV0I/AAAAAAAAEXg/FUAbbavmvGAkdwvq89U4m7-c2u2zGTFxACLcB/s1600/032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gEKMxnBF5VI/V-GnzVHGV0I/AAAAAAAAEXg/FUAbbavmvGAkdwvq89U4m7-c2u2zGTFxACLcB/s320/032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
2. He's arguably the coolest alien ever to be among us (plus he decided not to kill us all/rule the planet with his incredible powers which is also good)<br />
<br />
I decided to do a list of my favorite Supermen. I kept the list to only include portrayals that I, myself, can remember experiencing or took the time to watch (never watched "Smallville"...felt too "Dawson's Creeky" for my tastes). So here goes...<br />
<br />
#1: Christopher Reeve<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BDx2oaNPmlE/V-GpHfzgwgI/AAAAAAAAEXo/XJ7WOuuCUxk6ObyIJxTU_BS8aZzFCm_QgCEw/s1600/QFONdQB.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BDx2oaNPmlE/V-GpHfzgwgI/AAAAAAAAEXo/XJ7WOuuCUxk6ObyIJxTU_BS8aZzFCm_QgCEw/s320/QFONdQB.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As far as I'm concerned, Reeve is THE quintessential Superman. Kal-El himself could come down to earth and don the "S" and I'd still say Chris was better! (exaggerating but you get the point). My earliest memories of Superman are of Chris in the tights watching a marathon with my Uncle Ants so Chris also delivers in the nostalgia department... bonus points!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
#2: Brandon Routh</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-geRoZ3rZcVY/V-GqNMtkEEI/AAAAAAAAEXw/gUKa5fnjf8w2uIcjQIWIj-TTtMzhYAs7ACLcB/s1600/a2641f1e4d22caacb92a7583e86cd6c0052cddd55a8f5ec80ab710b0a669f4bf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-geRoZ3rZcVY/V-GqNMtkEEI/AAAAAAAAEXw/gUKa5fnjf8w2uIcjQIWIj-TTtMzhYAs7ACLcB/s320/a2641f1e4d22caacb92a7583e86cd6c0052cddd55a8f5ec80ab710b0a669f4bf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know, I know... "Superman Returns" sucked, right? Well to that I'd say "not exactly". Yes it was a flawed movie and didn't quite have what it took to be a successful reboot, but I still liked it better than "Man of Steel". "Returns" was too much of a homage type film rather than a stand alone reboot. All that said, I feel Routh was a more natural Superman than Henry is. I can't quite explain what I mean by that, but I still prefer his portrayal. It could be a subconscious thing that draws me to Routh because Routh's portrayal was very much like Chris'. Who knows...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
#3: Henry Cavill</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QrfnsrpP5tU/V-GrEOj8ZXI/AAAAAAAAEX0/4ObdhDc2SN0LrYSmfPsuu0uMB-1Xznz0gCLcB/s1600/cavill_superman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QrfnsrpP5tU/V-GrEOj8ZXI/AAAAAAAAEX0/4ObdhDc2SN0LrYSmfPsuu0uMB-1Xznz0gCLcB/s320/cavill_superman.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
With my choosing Brandon over Henry for number 2 spot I don't want to imply that I dislike Henry. I don't think he's a bad Superman. I do find him less natural and tad robotic, but not bad. Chris, for me, became "The Man of Steel"... Henry has yet to do that. He's still feels more like an actor in a suit than Superman himself (biased I know).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
#4: Dean Cain</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oqIxXaaeews/V-Gr1v9tvFI/AAAAAAAAEX4/kSjuswv_5Ik7WF3Q-Ho0YkgGfwndr6u9QCLcB/s1600/dean-cain-banner-superman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oqIxXaaeews/V-Gr1v9tvFI/AAAAAAAAEX4/kSjuswv_5Ik7WF3Q-Ho0YkgGfwndr6u9QCLcB/s320/dean-cain-banner-superman.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm not ashamed to admit that I liked the show "Lois and Clark". In its height I was about 13 and I can still remember where I was (a neighbor's party with my family) the night they had the "who's asking, Clark or Superman" season finale cliffhanger! So for that reason I had to include Dean's portrayal which wasn't bad at all in my opinion. Yes, the diving off camera take off was uber cheesy, but c'mon what more can you expect from 90s television!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
#5: George Reeves</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6YPeviEIONw/V-GsodEWIkI/AAAAAAAAEX8/NWwnJnb98Xsw1uwIlUorxL5YzEjAsLJyQCLcB/s1600/George-Reeves-Superman-xlarge-xlarge_trans%252B%252BRp36Ti1MFCYr8PMuS2fHb17hoDUspm84EYl8tHPMRlk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6YPeviEIONw/V-GsodEWIkI/AAAAAAAAEX8/NWwnJnb98Xsw1uwIlUorxL5YzEjAsLJyQCLcB/s320/George-Reeves-Superman-xlarge-xlarge_trans%252B%252BRp36Ti1MFCYr8PMuS2fHb17hoDUspm84EYl8tHPMRlk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now if you remember back at the start of this ramble I said all Supermen that I experienced, well (going to date myself with this one) I can remember George Reeves' Superman from old reruns as a kid. As a youngster in Kindergarten I usually had to go to aftercare when my morning half-day class was finished because my Mom and Grandmom both worked. BUT there were rare occasions when Grandmom would get done early and would pick me up. These were the afternoons I remember turning on the TV and surfing the channels to find these old black and white reruns. It didn't matter that they were old, it was Superman and I was obsessed!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that's it for my Superman top 5. I'm certainly looking forward to "Justice League" and am psyched that I'll get to see my all-time favorite in loads of movies to come!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<i> </i>I chose everyone's favorite "Reese's" scarfing alien for a whole
bunch of reasons. For starters, ET has been a part of my life since
practically day one. My mom loved the film and even got my an "ET"
birthday card for my 1st birthday (which thankfully she saved me and I
still have). So with "ET" always being around, the fact that it's a
classic film with so much epic 80s vibes, dripping with
memories/nostalgia, and that score from John Williams.... it was an easy
pick for me!<br />
<br />
Check out my last post <a href="http://fortuneandglorydays.blogspot.com/2016/09/collection-update-et-stuff.html">here</a> where I showed off my latest additions to my ET collection!<br />

Stuff!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWccE8C_xFI/V8yhCixWXsI/AAAAAAAAEU8/MER-4l_dxsscYDbFuRsdO_0Naz6xKDxewCLcB/s1600/ET_Moon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWccE8C_xFI/V8yhCixWXsI/AAAAAAAAEU8/MER-4l_dxsscYDbFuRsdO_0Naz6xKDxewCLcB/s400/ET_Moon.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a>"E.T." is my all-time favorite movie. I've watched it literally dozens of times and enjoy it the same every time. No moment, in my opinion, from any other movie can compare to when the bikes take flight much to the bewilderment of the "authorities" pursuing them. That moment coupled with that iconic score by the legendary John Williams will always remain unsurpassed by any other in my opinion.<br />
<br />
With all that said it should be no surprise that I have an ever growing "E.T." collection which I added to this week. Here's the goodies I took home...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EXT-UkMv8W4/V8yiL3CTkTI/AAAAAAAAEVE/HFEA-h3n880_URW_SIo2krvJPktXQR73QCLcB/s1600/IMG_0142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EXT-UkMv8W4/V8yiL3CTkTI/AAAAAAAAEVE/HFEA-h3n880_URW_SIo2krvJPktXQR73QCLcB/s320/IMG_0142.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
As kid my brother and I both had identical "ET" lamps. Above is a photo of the two of us which also pictures one of the lamps. I've been searching for years to find one like it and have struck out. Luckily they also made a night light that looks identical (which I have). The eyes and heart glow just like the lamp but there's no pole. Well this week I found a pretty awesome alternative which has taken its place as my lamp in the man cave....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UAXFje2MFfs/V8yit6NqAfI/AAAAAAAAEVI/O1wKGdhpkEYPHSSZxQkCHR0ovbD1eXd_ACLcB/s1600/IMG_9905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UAXFje2MFfs/V8yit6NqAfI/AAAAAAAAEVI/O1wKGdhpkEYPHSSZxQkCHR0ovbD1eXd_ACLcB/s320/IMG_9905.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the base with "E.T." written in that familiar font. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next I added the vintage "E.T." lunch box. This is the first lunch box in my collection. I had to have it simply for the amazing graphics! </div>

<br />
Finally (I guess you could say I saved the best for last) is this screen used prop from the early scenes of the film. This would have been seen glowing aboard ET's ship. With this being my favorite movie, I'm over the moon to own a recognizable screen used prop. As a collector you can really feel that connection with something like this...<br />

So that's it for my "E.T." collection update. <div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So those are my earliest memories of arcades and video games. I, of course, went on to love the classic NES titles along with many from SEGA as well (like Golden Axe). Everything was better back then and video game entertainment was no exception!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So this week's assignment the League is tasked with assigning themselves with a gold medal for something they're the best at. So it's been nearly 2 years (9/01/14) since I posted anything on this blog. I had intended on getting back to blogging this summer and it just never happened.... until now! Brian over at Cool and Collected resurrected his pop culture blogging league (which I'm psyched about!) and has me back ready to post my first update in ages.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PG5yY69qKKU/V7S69kY3NXI/AAAAAAAAESw/_bBvPeTPPm8YJ4Xz_bNPSD8QIHBxaSBbwCLcB/s1600/IMG_9743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PG5yY69qKKU/V7S69kY3NXI/AAAAAAAAESw/_bBvPeTPPm8YJ4Xz_bNPSD8QIHBxaSBbwCLcB/s320/IMG_9743.JPG" width="240" /></a>For this week's assignment it's "Shelfie". A simple assignment and one of my favorites! I decided to take a photo of my MOC wall that I feel really sums up my childhood...sure there's a few big ones missing like TMNT and Transformers (I hope to get into collecting those lines soon) but these lines do a pretty good job representing most of my obsessions growing in the 80s and early 90s. I know I'm biased but you really can't come close to topping these retro toy lines with anything they're cranking out these days....<br />
<br />
Part of the league is sharing links of fellow participants....click the links below for some other pop culture shelfies... <br />

This week the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is tasked with creating a top 10 list. The topic is wide open so I decided it would be fun to share my Top 10 favorite knick knacks/decorations in my man cave/collection room/Nerd Nook (as it's come to be called).<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
In no particular order...... <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#10 - Saturn V Rocket</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j2wjW5-A9v8/U-OSG-gaB_I/AAAAAAAAEDM/sMnc_AroRRg/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j2wjW5-A9v8/U-OSG-gaB_I/AAAAAAAAEDM/sMnc_AroRRg/s1600/010.JPG" height="320" width="127" /></a></div>
I'm a self proclaimed space geek. I find everything about space and its exploration fascinating. This model is cool in that it represents the rocket used in the Apollo missions which resulted in people walking on the face of the moon. In addition to its inherent coolness this was also a gift from my wife. She tries really hard to find nerdy stuff for me when occasions roll around and opening this one was awesome! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#9 - Retro Alf Clip On</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hHk1ovGC2WM/U-OS_P7pbdI/AAAAAAAAEDU/qAjVzMjay_k/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hHk1ovGC2WM/U-OS_P7pbdI/AAAAAAAAEDU/qAjVzMjay_k/s1600/016.JPG" height="320" width="211" /></a></div>
Being an 80s kid and a massive fan of the pop culture from that decade this guy is a fun addition to my Nerd Nook. He hangs onto to my desk lamp and has done so for about 3 years now. A good friend of mine gave it to me knowing I was a huge 80s fan. He had it from childhood buried in a drawer. Nobody puts Alf in a drawer!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#8 - Super Powers Collection Mail Away Poster</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CLoDg8TJa0w/U-OTrbUhalI/AAAAAAAAEDc/qNwObTe2fkY/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CLoDg8TJa0w/U-OTrbUhalI/AAAAAAAAEDc/qNwObTe2fkY/s1600/014.JPG" height="320" width="209" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b> </b>Being a massive Super Powers fan/collector I had to own this poster. It was one of the offers kids could send away for. I never had it as a kid but knew I needed it as an adult. It took about 2 years to finally score one in nice shape. This one was virtually untouched. No rips, creases or pin holes. I took it to be custom framed straight away. I ended up choosing a metallic red frame which I think looks rad and compliments the loudness of this epic 80s poster!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#7 - My "Straight from Germany" Nut Cracker</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7-Wiop9KhS4/U-OUm1qGFFI/AAAAAAAAEDk/mAL7J6UwJlw/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7-Wiop9KhS4/U-OUm1qGFFI/AAAAAAAAEDk/mAL7J6UwJlw/s1600/015.JPG" height="320" width="138" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For most people Nut Crackers are seasonal decorations taken out during the holidays. For me, this guy is proudly displayed all year around on the window ledge above my desk. My big bro brought it home for me about 4 years ago from his trip to Germany. I always wanted a real-deal nut cracker and the fact that my bro remembered this and hauled it all the way back from Germany instantly placed this guy high up on my list of favorite possessions! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>#6 - My MOTU knick knacks</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJcLLF4jTTk/U-OVWvhxFZI/AAAAAAAAEDs/Lw8apC6vOhE/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJcLLF4jTTk/U-OVWvhxFZI/AAAAAAAAEDs/Lw8apC6vOhE/s1600/011.JPG" height="198" width="320" /></a></div>
Having recently ventured into vintage MOTU collecting I had to have some fun "stuff" to display around the vintage collectibles. I've always loved Orko so I grabbed both of his versions from the Masters of the Universe Classics line. The other guys are just fun little toys that I enjoy displaying around.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#5 - Cast signed "The Breakfast Club" 8x10</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gLSY0NYVAdk/U-OV91BsUZI/AAAAAAAAED0/oFCD-01mk-8/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gLSY0NYVAdk/U-OV91BsUZI/AAAAAAAAED0/oFCD-01mk-8/s1600/017.JPG" height="320" width="253" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Being one of my all time favorite movies when I had a shot at this I jumped on it. It's a super iconic image from the movie and the era itself and I absolutely love having this display in my man cave! "Hi" back Mr. Nelson =)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#4 - My Pet Monster</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--5eVa8j9JlA/U-OWcixf_0I/AAAAAAAAED8/KsWaa3J7XLM/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--5eVa8j9JlA/U-OWcixf_0I/AAAAAAAAED8/KsWaa3J7XLM/s1600/019.JPG" height="320" width="231" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There's just something about this toy that screams 80s! It reeks of the era in all the best ways! I never had one of these as a kid and it's one of those toys I always wanted. I finally grabbed this one for a great price and have him proudly displayed in my man cave! Some day I'll track down those orange cuffs but until then this guy is on the loose!<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#3 - My Star Wars Statues</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tFlFAUXVPSE/U-OXJu-T87I/AAAAAAAAEEE/WIJddOC2olo/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tFlFAUXVPSE/U-OXJu-T87I/AAAAAAAAEEE/WIJddOC2olo/s1600/018.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
It's always makes an item extra special to me when my wife (who is the least nerdy person in the world) goes out of her way to buy me nerdy stuff. These two items represent two surprise gifts from my her and I love both of them!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>#2 - E.T. Collection</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

E.T. is hands down my favorite movie of all time. It's an amazing film with loads of nostalgia and good memories attached to it. For those reasons it will always be my favorite. The night light up there is the closest I've come to replacing a lamp my brother and I had in our room as young kids. It looked exactly the same only it had a pole coming out of the top allowing for a bulb and a shade. To this day I haven't been able to find one but the hunt continues!<br />

I did say that these items were in no particular order and that is true with all the entries except this one. These are my number 1 favorite items in my collection/man cave. Each of these has been with me since childhood and each tell a story. I can remember how and where I got them all!I can even remember the day I lost "Flying Fist He-Man's" accessories in a water trap on a golf course near my house. With these being the only toys I have left they're a super important part of my collection!<br />
<br />
So I'm sure you can see most of the stuff of this list is there for a sentimental reason or connection. I guess much of collecting is rooted in memories and the pursuit of reliving them. Without many of the items on this list my love for pop culture wouldn't exist making these items priceless!<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">

I hope you enjoyed looking my top ten items. Be sure to scope out <a href="http://coolandcollected.com/this-weeks-assignment-from-the-league-top-10/">Cool and Collected</a> for the rest of the League's entries!<b> </b></div>

With San Diego being the biggest nerd convention in America there are always loads of teasers and announcements. This week's assignment from the League is all about what news/products came out of the con that have drawn our collective gazes......<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
First and foremost I must mention the leaked teaser for "Batman V. Superman". For whatever reason this teaser hasn't been released outside of the con. Luckily we live in an age where keeping things a secret is next to impossible. Within hours the leaked footage was on YouTube (quickly removed) and I got to see it. It was terrible quality but it got the point across...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UeVVjRajP40/U9blpPHp_KI/AAAAAAAAEB0/8ElZNh6B1XE/s1600/10514738_907322129283447_540153900351043660_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UeVVjRajP40/U9blpPHp_KI/AAAAAAAAEB0/8ElZNh6B1XE/s1600/10514738_907322129283447_540153900351043660_n.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
As a lifelong lover of Batman and Superman (my 1 and 2 favorite heroes) I'm psyched for this movie. Just seeing these two iconic characters in the same preview was awesome <br />
<br />
The next item worth mentioning is a dreaded SDCC exclusive. I've come to hate these honestly. They're always really cool, highly inaccessible (even if you attend and wait hours) and inevitably scalped by dealers for ridiculous prices. <br />
<br />
Anyway it's the Kre-O Class of 84 Transformers set...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y68A2Bi-PA4/U9bnD2C8c3I/AAAAAAAAEB8/2t0YC1u8yAo/s1600/kreo1_1403641922_1406036276.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y68A2Bi-PA4/U9bnD2C8c3I/AAAAAAAAEB8/2t0YC1u8yAo/s1600/kreo1_1403641922_1406036276.jpg" height="220" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's got all the best characters done up in their original retro 80s style. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y58liA0bPK8/U9bnEJZEvYI/AAAAAAAAECA/E_ypf-wcSBs/s1600/SDCC-Kreon-Class-of-1984-Box-Exterior.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
The other exclusive that I really liked was LEGO's 1966 Batmobile set. It too is going for silly money on ebay...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aF8oYZCIbn8/U9boCSOCIXI/AAAAAAAAECM/NjonAT4EFlc/s1600/batman-sdcc-comic-con-exclusive-batmobile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aF8oYZCIbn8/U9boCSOCIXI/AAAAAAAAECM/NjonAT4EFlc/s1600/batman-sdcc-comic-con-exclusive-batmobile.jpg" height="207" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
....but as you can see, it's super awesome!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The last thing I'll mention is a new line announced by Mattel that I'm likely to end up collecting, Masters of the Universe Giants!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0UsHyyqL2iA/U9wBKrVo3kI/AAAAAAAAECk/-Uex8tiRlj0/s1600/image(2).png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0UsHyyqL2iA/U9wBKrVo3kI/AAAAAAAAECk/-Uex8tiRlj0/s1600/image(2).png" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
With the success of Gentle Giant's 12 inch scale Vintage Star Wars line and the upcoming G.I. Joe versions, oversize remakes seem to be the "it" thing. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YMeaOeBoI5I/U9wBgHRRnpI/AAAAAAAAECs/RWjwVfWD7ro/s1600/image(1).png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YMeaOeBoI5I/U9wBgHRRnpI/AAAAAAAAECs/RWjwVfWD7ro/s1600/image(1).png" height="185" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Snake is on a six inch scale so you can see these are gonna be BIG!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These guys are going on sale starting in September and will be one character a month until the end of the year. I'm fairly certain I'll cave and at least end up with Beast Man, Skeletor, and He-Man! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

It's kind of fun to just go through the movies and pick random titles. I like to think I've got a pretty comprehensive movie background. I've been a huge movie fan for decades and have seen most of the must see titles. While scrolling through I came across one movie I haven't seen, "The Witness".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x4mAJYvLVGg/U8f3Qmvs9II/AAAAAAAAEBA/9nbGzUkcVLA/s1600/witness-harrison-ford-600x405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x4mAJYvLVGg/U8f3Qmvs9II/AAAAAAAAEBA/9nbGzUkcVLA/s1600/witness-harrison-ford-600x405.jpg" height="164" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a> Being a huge Ford and 80s movie fan I admit it's a bit surprising I hadn't seen this. I always heard it was his best performance and finally watched it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Q7ZD6W-ZdM/U8f3gqTV7YI/AAAAAAAAEBI/J6PfFNm0e3c/s1600/MV5BMjE4ODQ2MTI3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzk1ODAwMQ@@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Q7ZD6W-ZdM/U8f3gqTV7YI/AAAAAAAAEBI/J6PfFNm0e3c/s1600/MV5BMjE4ODQ2MTI3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzk1ODAwMQ@@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpg" height="320" width="176" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I enjoyed it quite a bit. Definitely a solid performance by Ford. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For my next viewing I chose a totally random movie I'd never heard of before called "My Bodyguard". I chose it strictly based on it's high star rating on Netflix and the fact that it's from 1980. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kk9vW8-cUQk/U8f36s48oOI/AAAAAAAAEBQ/y4NAfGRwl-A/s1600/my-bodyguard-poster.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kk9vW8-cUQk/U8f36s48oOI/AAAAAAAAEBQ/y4NAfGRwl-A/s1600/my-bodyguard-poster.png" height="320" width="175" /></a></div>
I was immediately interested in the plot and characters. The young actors in this movie do an excellent job! If you haven't seen this one I'd highly recommend giving it a watch!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DPa0-p2jMYc/U8f4JuvD_4I/AAAAAAAAEBY/nMGo4XZb8Rc/s1600/mybodyguard_promo01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DPa0-p2jMYc/U8f4JuvD_4I/AAAAAAAAEBY/nMGo4XZb8Rc/s1600/mybodyguard_promo01.jpg" height="246" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's really it for day 28. Low key....not that there's anything wrong with that!</div>
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12834738869862225488noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639507019413773499.post-43437156590112657602014-07-16T17:14:00.001-04:002020-03-06T03:12:15.751-05:00Days 26-27 - 80s flicks, Outback and a Holy Grail!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I finally watched an 80s favorite of mine "Lucas". If you haven't seen this it is definitely worth watching. I'm always impressed with Corey Haim's performance in this movie. He really nails it and conveys the emotions a kid in Lucas' position would be feeling. I don't want to spoil it so if you haven't seen it, WATCH IT!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_oz-v5jcxgw/U8boQP-titI/AAAAAAAAD_o/XoblYlF1IdQ/s1600/575124_orig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_oz-v5jcxgw/U8boQP-titI/AAAAAAAAD_o/XoblYlF1IdQ/s1600/575124_orig.jpg" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a> The main theme absolutely reeks of the 80s in all the best ways! Definitely worth a listen.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/XtGvhZCna5o?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Rest in Peace Corey</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I hadn't seen "Karate Kid 3" in forever and had more or less forgotten the plot. It was free on Netflix streaming so I watched it. I was pretty underwhelmed. It seemed like they were basically remaking the first one without all the awesomeness and weight in the plot. I also found myself wondering how Ralph must have felt still playing the part of a "under 18" character while being in his mid/late 20s.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eGYNE9ezNK4/U8bnsSTwnBI/AAAAAAAAD_k/0_eQJeXby74/s1600/Karate_kid_part_III.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eGYNE9ezNK4/U8bnsSTwnBI/AAAAAAAAD_k/0_eQJeXby74/s1600/Karate_kid_part_III.jpg" height="200" width="133" /></a></div>
<br />
Day 27 was pretty low key as well. I promised my mom and grandmom I'd drive them out to this shoe store they love. They were super appreciative and made it seem like I did them a big favor. Truth be told I enjoyed myself and looked forward to it. Anytime I can get my 83 year old grandmom out of the house is a win! We got lunch at Outback Steakhouse after the store and had a really good time!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TYcabYFYlE/U8bpsO8hyTI/AAAAAAAAD_0/OTTp2FLETPU/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TYcabYFYlE/U8bpsO8hyTI/AAAAAAAAD_0/OTTp2FLETPU/s1600/014.JPG" height="191" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Neat little strip of stores.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Finally I ended my day with a huge package arriving. One of my holy grails for Masters of the Universe!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e9MviMD1Kzg/U8bqMB_MOWI/AAAAAAAAD_8/Zrl2tLaLg6g/s1600/skeletor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e9MviMD1Kzg/U8bqMB_MOWI/AAAAAAAAD_8/Zrl2tLaLg6g/s1600/skeletor.jpg" height="251" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This is the 1982 first release of Skeletor! It's called an 8 back because it has 8 figures pictured on the back. By 1983 Skeletor was already switched to a 12 back card making the 8 back a grail piece for MOTU collectors. I'm super psyched to have it in my collection. I don't think any other toy line can bring back the sort of nostalgia that Masters of the Universe does. It's a real treat owning this awesome piece of my childhood!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Me (Skeletor) and my big brother. Probably 1985 or 86. Ah memories...</div>

The wife and I made the drive to Rehoboth beach to visit my in-laws. I was pretty excited to finally be hitting up the beach and walking on the board walk. As a kid I spent loads of time in the summer down the shore. It's always a nice jolt of nostalgia to hear arcade sounds, eat ice cream and check out the amusement park.<br />

Used to love the swings!<br />
<br />
Anyway that was my weekend. Today I was pretty lazy. We got the drive out of the way early and I spent the rest of the day watching a few old favorites of mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M64hfYw1zDE/U8Rd_RAh52I/AAAAAAAAD-8/aA-8aAV2REI/s1600/throw-mama-off-the-train.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M64hfYw1zDE/U8Rd_RAh52I/AAAAAAAAD-8/aA-8aAV2REI/s1600/throw-mama-off-the-train.jpg" height="200" width="145" /></a></div>
Always enjoyed this one from when I was a kid!<br />

I cleaned up the man cave and watched Roger Ebert's documentary "Life Itself". It was pretty hot and I've had very few lazy days so I embraced the hell out of it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K6lCqcoP2pI/U8FKyTipSMI/AAAAAAAAD9k/T4Ms9j_UaSc/s1600/Roger-Ebert-Young-e1365163729688.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K6lCqcoP2pI/U8FKyTipSMI/AAAAAAAAD9k/T4Ms9j_UaSc/s1600/Roger-Ebert-Young-e1365163729688.jpg" height="202" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The documentary was interesting. It's always neat to learn about a person's life. I find it fascinating to see what makes people tick and what propelled them through life's journey. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zhvrUEcdIQ8/U8FLP1hmz4I/AAAAAAAAD9s/eFFkOAqkmj0/s1600/siskel-and-ebert.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zhvrUEcdIQ8/U8FLP1hmz4I/AAAAAAAAD9s/eFFkOAqkmj0/s1600/siskel-and-ebert.jpg" /></a></div>
I actually hit up YouTube to find an old episode of "Siskel and Ebert". I remember watching this as a kid so it was quite a jolt of nostalgia....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/3QCPahxsycI?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I managed to find the episode where they reviewed "Return of the Jedi"!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Kinda weird knowing they're both dead. Seems a lot of the big 80s icons are getting up there in age. Anyway I digress....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
"I was born inside the movie of my life. The visuals were before me, the
audio surrounded me, the plot unfolded inevitably but not necessarily. I
don't remember how I got into the movie, but it continues to entertain
me.”- Roger Ebert</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5wbGItsgARs/U7wXsBd4J9I/AAAAAAAAD8Y/_gL84QfpMhQ/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5wbGItsgARs/U7wXsBd4J9I/AAAAAAAAD8Y/_gL84QfpMhQ/s1600/image.jpg" height="83" width="320" /></a></div>
Lately I've been toying with the idea of creating a new 80s inspired collage type banner for the old Nerd Nook. I also decided that before I do so I'd go back to something I thought of doing a while ago..... I give you the first installment of what I'm going to be calling.....<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Dissecting the Banner!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-py2Lcn9QNzY/U7wVEzhXdoI/AAAAAAAAD74/VNYpfA4Btx0/s1600/harry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-py2Lcn9QNzY/U7wVEzhXdoI/AAAAAAAAD74/VNYpfA4Btx0/s1600/harry.jpg" height="128" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a>I figured a nice place to start would be with the above section. Any self respecting lover of the 80s already knows who this hairy fella is but just in case allow me to introduce Harry. Harry was the "big foot/Sasquatch" from the classics 80s flick "Harry and the Hendersons"<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q_kxNsa85Jo/U7wVgFq7wWI/AAAAAAAAD8A/PWlyZGFR2V4/s1600/MV5BMjIzNjA3MTE3OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMjkzNTcxMTE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q_kxNsa85Jo/U7wVgFq7wWI/AAAAAAAAD8A/PWlyZGFR2V4/s1600/MV5BMjIzNjA3MTE3OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMjkzNTcxMTE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_.jpg" height="200" width="135" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Growing up it was one of my favorite movies to watch over and over again with my bro. John Lithgow was great in it and it also starred Don Ameche. It's what you'd expect from the 80s. A fun family friendly flick that still holds up decades later and is undoubtedly loved and cherished by the "kids" (now old) who loved it! I knew old Harry deserved a place in my banner for sure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XYHZuqVwIp8/U7wWICLNUXI/AAAAAAAAD8M/a5Y3KGbjPnw/s1600/050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XYHZuqVwIp8/U7wWICLNUXI/AAAAAAAAD8M/a5Y3KGbjPnw/s1600/050.JPG" height="200" width="141" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Saw this guy at a shop last week. Totally wish I'd gotten it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/YPZdR7phyGw?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A personal favorite scene when George Henderson sticks up for his friend Harry<br />
"my name is George Hen..." </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/aXchPX0FZf8?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Perfect song and fitting ending to a true 80s classic.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So that's it for my first installment of "Dissecting the Banner". Stay tuned!</div>

There are a few other things I need to do before I can really settle in to my summer groove. It's also not summer until I.... </div>

We settled on Uno. For starters I love being off when it's crazy hot out. We went in ordered cold beers and I quickly realized they had an 80s playlist going......<br />

My niece is in town this weekend and I couldn't wait to spend some time with her....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9kvoiWk64Nc/U7a0TSEl2oI/AAAAAAAAD44/9WMeHZhm3Ns/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9kvoiWk64Nc/U7a0TSEl2oI/AAAAAAAAD44/9WMeHZhm3Ns/s1600/020.JPG" height="200" width="150" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a>After bumming around for a bit with morning cartoons and enjoying some waffles we headed out to greet the HOT day. We made sure to get an early start due to the intense humidity. It was super fun. My Mom came along and we played at the park for as long as we could bare it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q4zwScxOivY/U7a0xC0H0zI/AAAAAAAAD5A/o2yNwAYK5d8/s1600/035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q4zwScxOivY/U7a0xC0H0zI/AAAAAAAAD5A/o2yNwAYK5d8/s1600/035.JPG" height="200" width="150" /></a></div>
<br />
After the park we stopped for lunch at Chic Fil A. My niece housed a 4 piece nuggets and I was happy to get her some more. For whatever reason the whole experience reminded me of old times when I was a kid in the summer. I truly can't remember the last time I was at a fast food spot with my mom and actually sat inside and had a meal. I'd say it's 10-15 years easy. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Who knew you could have that much fun over chicken nuggets!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oaXgfFmSl88/U7a1Win4S6I/AAAAAAAAD5I/-IMAuR8QWA4/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oaXgfFmSl88/U7a1Win4S6I/AAAAAAAAD5I/-IMAuR8QWA4/s1600/030.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
After lunch we went home and cooled off. We spent some time in the basement playing with toys before she took her nap. Doesn't she have the most awesome toy nook under the stairs? I'd have totally turned that into an epic fort back in the day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjezanSAg30/U7a16I6S0RI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/5mhtI_7IX-A/s1600/MV5BMTQ3NzA1MTY3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzE2Mzg5MTE@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjezanSAg30/U7a16I6S0RI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/5mhtI_7IX-A/s1600/MV5BMTQ3NzA1MTY3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzE2Mzg5MTE@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpg" /></a></div>
After a morning of fun with my niece a friend and I headed out to see "Snowpiercer". A post apocalyptic sci fi type flick. After the mind numbing experience that was Transformers 4, I was hoping for something different and thought provoking. It was good for the most part. Kinda weird but still enjoyable and interesting.<br />
<br />
To round out the day we popped into to another collectible shop (there's gonna be a lot of this in the summer of Rich!).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5_z8fpOu7N4/U7a2dKUeLAI/AAAAAAAAD5c/-AZa3iOD3fs/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5_z8fpOu7N4/U7a2dKUeLAI/AAAAAAAAD5c/-AZa3iOD3fs/s1600/038.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This Arkham Asylum 4 pack was pretty sharp. My buddy ended up leaving with it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qJ1yZ7hsq4E/U7a2ddSQn8I/AAAAAAAAD5g/tS9u873CyT0/s1600/039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qJ1yZ7hsq4E/U7a2ddSQn8I/AAAAAAAAD5g/tS9u873CyT0/s1600/039.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Been on a huge MOTU kick lately and this was pretty cool.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvxVNRA-muE/U7a2dNFFtSI/AAAAAAAAD5k/bMwly6ynzKs/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvxVNRA-muE/U7a2dNFFtSI/AAAAAAAAD5k/bMwly6ynzKs/s1600/040.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
MOTU Classics are one of my biggest temptations these days. They're brilliant looking toys of some of my childhood favorite characters. If they weren't so pricey and didn't need so much space I'd have caved long ago!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nmxp5OloV1g/U7a2eIoKTpI/AAAAAAAAD5w/qsbkgdaNDzk/s1600/042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nmxp5OloV1g/U7a2eIoKTpI/AAAAAAAAD5w/qsbkgdaNDzk/s1600/042.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway that's it for day 13. I'll leave you with some 80s awesomeness. My Pet Monster and MOTU!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tomorrow I'm hoping to get in my annual viewing of "Summer Rental" and do some relaxing with family.</div>
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12834738869862225488noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639507019413773499.post-17191640235017567782014-07-02T10:36:00.001-04:002020-03-06T03:12:15.680-05:00Day 9 - Ghostbusters, Soccer, Paint and LazinessThe last thing in the title was really theme for day 9. In my defense I've been super busy and really hadn't spent much time bumming around. Yesterday I took care of that little problem!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CoIxrHZ1fg0/U7QWuaqoKwI/AAAAAAAAD4c/AjdVxHuoDVg/s1600/ghostbusters-image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CoIxrHZ1fg0/U7QWuaqoKwI/AAAAAAAAD4c/AjdVxHuoDVg/s1600/ghostbusters-image.jpg" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a>So my 80s movie binge continued today and I ended up watching Ghostbusters for probably the 30th time (no exaggeration). As expected, I enjoyed the hell out of it and cracked several smiles in response to the epic awesomeness. One of the smiles came at the end when they dig "the little guy" out of the crispy dead dog creature thing and he asks "who are you guys" at which point Ray answers very matter of factly "we're the Ghostbusters". I was ear to ear like a little kid with that line!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KObUKNnNps0/U7QX4mKHoyI/AAAAAAAAD4g/ldcS729rxiU/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KObUKNnNps0/U7QX4mKHoyI/AAAAAAAAD4g/ldcS729rxiU/s1600/002.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The one active thing I did accomplish today was finishing up a few more chores I promised Mom I'd do around her house. I painted some stuff for her and started repainting this antique drum. I decorated it for her years ago and it basically wore out. I put a nice white base coat on and will be adding her desired decorations this weekend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-47GIwYNZ8MM/U7QYUqx9R-I/AAAAAAAAD4o/yx1Sz1piMZc/s1600/037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-47GIwYNZ8MM/U7QYUqx9R-I/AAAAAAAAD4o/yx1Sz1piMZc/s1600/037.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The above photo basically sums up the rest of my day. I spent it on that couch in my man cave watching soccer and playing Minecraft. My dogs were obviously big fans of this idea!<br />
<br />
Not much going on for day 11. I'm actually working a bit at a restaurant I worked out while going through college. Probably skip today's entry for that reason but day 12 I will be looking to spice things up!Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12834738869862225488noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639507019413773499.post-24540103004604764282014-06-30T19:45:00.000-04:002020-03-06T03:12:15.704-05:00Day 8 - John Candy, Pizza, Soccer and ToysWhile typing out the title of this entry I realized it sounds like I was pretty busy. Truth be told I spent quite a bit of time bumming around (this is inevitable when you have 72 days off). Anyway I started the day with a quick bike ride to the gym (trying to get in exercise early before summer laziness sets in. After the gym (I was back by 9am) I settled in for a bit to watch another summer staple....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love this movie so much. As I watch these old school 80s gems it always becomes apparent that these sorts of simple fun/family movies are truly a thing of the past. I've seen this movies probably 2 dozen times and I always enjoy it! John Candy is great but I also REALLY enjoy Dan Akroyd's portrayal of rich/obnoxious Uncle Roman!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I ended up picking up an Orko. This one's from 2002's 200x series.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I usually only collect vintage MOTU but love me some Orko. I have a little collection going for him so I figured a slight deviation from the vintage rule would be ok as long as it was to add to another collection I have going.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
From left to right I have the SDCC exclusive color changing from MOTU classics, MOTU classics, MOC vintage and 200x from 2002. Like I said I really like Orko! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To round out the day we hit up Pizza Hut for lunch. I don't know if it's just me, but Pizza Huts remind me of the 80s. This was the old style building with the red roof and throw back looking interior.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
While eating I was reminded of one of my favorite old school 80s commercials....</div>

Anyway it was an overall fun and relaxing day. Days like these are why I love summer so much. Plenty of time to relax and just be....</div>

I've got some neat day trips planned this week as well as World Cup soccer outings. Stay tuned for what''s next in the Summer of Rich!</div>

This past Saturday (6/28) a friend and I made the drive out to a pretty cool toy show. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w6M7wUE3h8Q/U7FnALkpK7I/AAAAAAAAD0k/vwMvUtp6At4/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w6M7wUE3h8Q/U7FnALkpK7I/AAAAAAAAD0k/vwMvUtp6At4/s1600/004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Many of the vendors had stuff from my favorite lines including vintage Star Wars, MOTU and Super Powers!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hbh_TCEGQjM/U7FnOpHTknI/AAAAAAAAD0s/z5o7HVsOEOU/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hbh_TCEGQjM/U7FnOpHTknI/AAAAAAAAD0s/z5o7HVsOEOU/s1600/005.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The MOC vintage Indy was super bad ass! I was also surprised to see Colombian released Super Powers figures from the Gulliver toy company. If that Wonder Woman was still attached to the card I'd have whipped out the CC in a flash!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Check out this box of childhood memories! An amazing assortment of NES and SNES games!</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I may be weird but I love random, messy piles of stuff at toy shows!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sitLOp-jb0Q/U7FoaK7z53I/AAAAAAAAD1I/7LOlM4FNgRE/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sitLOp-jb0Q/U7FoaK7z53I/AAAAAAAAD1I/7LOlM4FNgRE/s1600/008.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some super nice and uber minty Megos!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qqmRV7cHCIw/U7Fois-LxII/AAAAAAAAD1Q/iIBB7mMlB_I/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qqmRV7cHCIw/U7Fois-LxII/AAAAAAAAD1Q/iIBB7mMlB_I/s1600/009.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
More random coolness</div>
<br />

This was an original display box for "The Force Lightsaber" circa 1983 when ROTJ was released. Neat to see but this guy's prices were bananas! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't have a haul to show since I honestly didn't end up buying anything. It wasn't that I didn't see stuff I wanted, I just didn't feel that itch to pull the trigger. The day wasn't totally free of new goodies in the Nerd Nook.... I returned home to find the mail man had dropped off my most recent splurge purchase....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Psx9Y4esJeA/U7FpbUitJpI/AAAAAAAAD1k/wiyNmokv_UE/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Psx9Y4esJeA/U7FpbUitJpI/AAAAAAAAD1k/wiyNmokv_UE/s1600/015.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
As a kid I ALWAYS wanted one of these and never got one. I'd been following sales on eBay for some time and these guys can fetch a pretty penny. I finally saw one buy it now for a super reasonable price considering what others have sold for and just said "what the heck!"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He's missing his cuffs so I'll be happily scouring the interwebs and future shows for those but honestly he's super cool as is!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yesterday (6/29) was a pretty kick back kinda day. The wife and I grilled up some seafood and drank summer beer. I don't have much planned for this week so who knows what direction the summer a Rich will take. Stay tuned!</div>

I more or less spentthe entire first week playing catch up with loads of stuff I put off until summer. I also made good on a few promises I made to mom for stuff she needed done around her house.<br />
<br />
In spite of my overall boring and uneventful week I'm going to make a quick post to keep consistent!<br />
<br />
So yesterday I spent a few hours painting a giant fence around my mom's house. It was kind of ironic having just watched "Karate Kid" the night before. It was like my mom was Miyagi saying "paint the fence!". <br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I really should have worn a cool bandana!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After finally finishing her various tasks a buddy and I road our bikes to a local bar for some beers, hot wings and World Cup Soccer. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLU9xQu2avk/U64cnA8WeaI/AAAAAAAADz0/OtkSJpC5IEY/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLU9xQu2avk/U64cnA8WeaI/AAAAAAAADz0/OtkSJpC5IEY/s1600/009.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today (day 5) I reluctantly, having been talked into by a friend, went to see Transformers 4. The nearly 3 hour run time had me hesitant about going. Add in the fact that I was underwhelmed by all the other movies and I really wasn't keen on going. Long story short...I should have saved my ten bucks. What a snoozer! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
Luckily the day wasn't a complete wash. The wife and I stepped out for some sushi (which I love) and had frozen yogurt in the park. The weather was super nice and we had a great time!<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
To cap off this up and down Friday I came home to this guy in the mail!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Zodac is my 3rd 8-back so I'm super psyched to have him! Hopefully my posts will get a bit more interesting now that I've essentially caught up with all the "stuff". This weekend I've got a graduation party and a toy show! The summer of Rich is hopefully about to get interesting!</div>
