He - Man....the most powerful man in the universe!

It's crazy how a toy can hold so many memories! When I see these amazingly awesome action figures I am instantly transported back to Atlanta, Georgia (where my family lived in the early 80s). From my spot on the carpet, I can hear Orko's theme playing in the background while Man at Arms tells us kids some bit of important safety information.

I think that's what I love most about collecting. Surrounding myself with relics from the past that remind me of simpler times when everything was amazing and new!

And now to start my loooooong day I'll echo those words in my mind "I have the power!"

League of Extraordinary Bloggers.....WHY???

Gotta love these wide opened League assignments...this weeks it's simply.....

Yup, Why, that's it. The possibles are endless, yet I ended up going with a "why" I always find myself asking (even though I know the answer).....
"Why don't these villains just finish the job already and get on with their master plans?!?!?"

I'm gonna start with a few characters who've been given an out multiple times AND by different villains!

Whether it's a kryptonite necklace or kryptonite shank....WHY don't they finish the job and kill the Man of Steel already! I mean let's face it, how many chances do you really think you're gonna get!

"I have to leave ya now, no hard feelings. We all have our little faults. Mine is in California"
"Now fly!"
Regardless of the quote, both Lex's ended up with big regrets!
Moral of the story "Don't attempt to troll the Man of Steel"
Another proverbial thorn in a villain's side....Dr. Jones! As you can see, the bad guys had their shot not once, but twice to rid the world of this whip wielding nuisance, and both times allowed him to slip through their fingers only to return and foil their plans!

So I repeat WHY not kill em when you had the chance???? I guess I don't need to tell you what happened to these over confident bad guy...this photo will do!
"Ah yet again what once was yours in now mine!"
"this is how we say goodbye in Germany!"

Face melt or dust to dust....these villains were certainly kicking themselves!

Next up Auric Goldfinger and his metal cutting laser.  The man with the Midas touch! He, like all the perviously mentioned, overly confident villains, had his chance to eliminate his nemesis and instead chooses to walk off assuming his laser will finish the job....Goldfinger ends up asking himself WHY right before being sucked out of an airplane at 30,000 feet while James is cozied up under a parachute with Pussy Galore!
"Noooooo Mr. Bond....I expect you to die!!!!!"
Next time, a golden bullet will do the trick!
Next we've got Roger Rabbit. I mean if you're a villain and you can't best this guy you've got some problems. Instead of tossing old Rog and his leggy wife Jessica into a fresh vat of "dip", he chooses to prologue their demise which in turn (you guessed it) results in his own.

"Shave and haircut....?" bout a steam roller and a nice dip in some.....well "dip".

Next we've one of my favorite movies from the 90s..."Interview With a Vampire". Now it seems that vampires have this unwriten rule. It basically says making kids into vampires is a no no. Well Louie goes ahead and does it anyway. Long story short, the other vampires they run into are none to pleased about this and decide to punish them. Claudia and another vampire are locked outside with no escape from the rising sun, and Louie is locked in a metal coffin, placed upside and walled in (a pretty shitty way for an immortal to spend eternity ey?). Anyway the elaborate scheme works and Claudia and pal are turned to dust. Louie on the other hand escapes and proceeds to avenge their deaths by burning and slicing (with a giant sickle) all of the vampires!

WHY take the risk?!?!? Next time the old stake in the heart still works!

The Bride from "Kill Bill" is one bad ass chick. Definitely one of the last people I'd want after me! Well when they finally get a chance to do away with this pissed off mom out for revenge who can clear a room with a samurai sword....what do they do????? They bury her alive instead of finishing her off! She of course escapes and continues her bloody quest for revenge.

WHY I say....WHY?!?!

I'm gonna wrap this up with Jack T. Colton and Just Joan Wilder. "Romancing the Stone" and "Jewel of the Nile" were two of my childhood favorites so I couldn't leave this one out.

Now Omar (the bad guy) knows that these two will stop at nothing to prevent him from accomplishing his goal. They've already stolen a fighter jet, been shot at by tanks, risked life and limb to foil his plans yet when he finally has the chance to put an end to it what does he do????? He ties them up, hangs them over a pit and leaves them to die. They of course get loose and finish the job!

Next time Omar, lose the ropes and just chuck em in! WHY risk it right?

So the moral of the story is simple: Villains of the world if you want to succeed in your plot to take over the world be sure to end it quick if you ever get a shot at that pesky protagonist!

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers - Star Trek !!!

So for this week's assignment from the League we'll be writing about.......

Anyone who knows me is well aware of the fact that I love Star Wars. That's right I said "Wars". My love affair with Star Wars has been growing and evolving my entire life. I know all the ins and outs of Star Wars right down to the obscure little details that make people look at you funny....I digress. Anyway as it says it's STAR TREK.

Now I don't claim to be a Treky and my knowledge of Star Trek is limited at best. I did however become a fan (I use the term loosely) after seeing JJ Abrams reboot a few years back.  I found it to be truly epic. I really enjoyed watching the evolution of Kirk and Spock's friendship and the action was top notch (I saw it twice in theatres!!!). That said I can't wait for Friday.

"Space Seed", the first appearance of Khan!
After seeing the movie a few years back, a friend of mine (who's way more of a Trek fan than I'll ever be) suggested I watch some of the "key stuff". He suggested, for a newb like me, the following episode and movies: Space Seed (the first time Khan is introduced to the Star Trek universe via the television show), Wrath of Khan (Khan's appearance on the big screen in arguably the best of the classic movies), and The Search for Spock (the follow up to Wrath of Khan)

I enjoyed Space Seed and Wrath of Khan the most. Search for Spock....not so much. So that's really the extent of my Star Trek fandom. I am really psyched for the movie Friday. Who knows, maybe it'll inspire to to delve even deeper into all that is Star Trek.

Before I wrap up this post I want to share some new Star Trek related toys I've added to the Nerd Nook. I've been absolutely loving blind bags these days and have been all over the LEGO minifigures. After reading this post over at Toyriffic I headed out to Toys R Us to see about these Kre-O Star Trek Toys. Here's how I did.....

Captain Nero (great accessories and detailed heads!)

Lieutenant Sprog

Gorn (The Lizard Kirk famously fights in the epic battle featured in the below video!)

Keenser (The little guy who hangs out with Scottie in the last movie)

These are some really neat little figures....and with a buy one get one deal at Toys R US, I couldn't resist grabbing up the whole first series. I did, however, remove the guess work from the equation. If you want to guarantee a certain character use these codes found on the backs of the packs (shout out again to Toyriffic for making me aware of this strategy!)
 Captain Nero 30711 05
Keenser 30711 06
Lieutenant Sprog 30711 07
Klingon 30711 08
 Gorn - 30711 09
Grasia - 30711 10

If you like mini figures, blind bags, Star Trek (or all three!) grab these guys! They are fun and very affordable! Until next time....MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!!......
......No but seriously.....LIVE LONG....AND PROSPER!!!

League links to come!!!

LEGO Series 10 Blind Bags 15/16 figures

Here are 15/16 of the series 10 minifigures. I am only missing the Mechanic. All in all it was a pretty cool series with some great, stand out characters!

LEGO Series 10 Blind Bag Toys

I've very publicly, and on numerous occasions, admitted to being addicted to these blind bagged LEGO minifigures. I've purchased 13 blind bags and gotten zero duplicates! My most recent scores came last night. I grabbed the Skydiver (who is super LOLZY with that facial expression), the Roman Soldier (who's just cool), and Grandpa (who i really wanted for reasons I can't explain).

League Of Extraordinary Bloggers - Stranded!

For this week's assignment it's
"You are stranded for 10 years on a deserted island. You can take with you the following: One food item (in a never-ending supply), one movie, one game, and one pop culture character. "

Alright after quite a bit of deliberation I'd like to be marooned with....

Have an endless supply of......

be entertained by this.....
(random I know, but I have some great memories attached to this movie!)
....and this ..
(It's fun, addicting, and Indy can play co-op)

My mansion I built.....

I don't think I'd be doing too bad for those 10 years. Some adventures with Doctor Jones, campfires with sushi, an 80s cop movie, Michael McDonald music, and of course some Minecraft.....

Nostalgia Spotlight - WWF and The Ultimate Warrior!

My days as a wrestling fan were brief when I consider how long I've loved Super Heroes and Star Wars. In spite of that fact, there was a time in my life where I couldn't get enough of the WWF (yes WWF not WWE). I would say my wrestling fandom began around 1990 and lasted for about 3 years.

My brother an I dumped loads of quarters into the WWF arcade machine. This little corner store across from our elementary school sold candy and had this machine. So awesome!

We had loads of fun completing our set of WWF Classics trading cards!

Unwrapping this on Christmas morning easily makes my list of top 5 gifts from Santa!

Yes, it's true, there was a time when I couldn't get enough wrestling. As a kid, with so many great personalities, it was easy to love.

The reason I felt inspired to blog about my brief love affair with wrestling has to do with this toy....
I had this figure as a kid. Unfortunately mine (the one I owned many years ago) was lost when my family moved to Florida (one of many moves). I have to thank Brian from Cool and Collected for hooking me up this one. I'm thrilled to have it again. He has been given a fitting place in the man cave!

"My new digs....not bad..." - Ultimate Warrior

So that's it for this quick walk down memory lane. Thanks again Brian for helping me add a favorite toy chock full of nostalgia!
