Toy Spotlight - Slimer

Taking a quick look at the Ecto 1 Club Slimer. Basically this guy was a "we're sorry we never got the club going so we're going to give you a free toy to make it up to you."

He was supposed to be "exclusive" and only offered to Ecto 1 Club members. I guess they were only kidding when they said that since today I saw it for preorder at BigBadToyStore. Anyway he is really cool and glows in the dark!
I really like this stand attached to him. Gives the impression he's floating. Balances really well too.

Gotta love the little spud!

I tried to snap a glow in the dark picture but the camera wouldn't pick up enough of the light.
This is a neat little toy. Especially if your a fan of the Ghostbusters!
"Ghostbustas whatdya want!"

Toy Spotlight - Transformers

So it would seem the toy collecting world has been taken by storm by the blind bag craze. Blind bags seem to be the "it" thing and everyone wants a piece of the pie. I believe LEGO started it all with their blind bagged mini-figures that seem to have really caught on and have become highly collectible. Since then we've seen all types of blind bag/boxed toys emerge. Well Transformers is getting in on the fun. They are currently selling buildable bling bagged characters similar to LEGO. Come this May, they will be offering 3 inch blind boxed vinyl figures that will each come with an accessory. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit intrigued........

Nerd Nook Newbies

Welcome to another edition of Nerd Nook Newbies!

This will be  a quick one. As most people who have read my blog in the past know, I have been collecting LEGO minifigures. I pretty much check eBay every once in a while and buy the cheap ones I want from sellers who do free shipping. Here are my latest additions.......(next week's Newbies should be a bit more exicting....not that LEGOs aren't!)
Blind Bag Series 5 - Small Clown
He is half the size of most mini figs and holding a cream pie....what's not to love???
Still after the series one Clown (getting series one as a whole soon....hint hint hint)

Series 5 - Egyptian Queen (Cleopatra)
She is pretty cool. I mainly got her to complete the set when I score the Egyptian Pharaoh.

Finally (I said quick remember?) Series 4 - Viking
 This guy completed.....
........this couple....and just in time for Valentine's Day!

This week's LEGO Newbies.....

I did pick up one other new item to add to my advertising icons collections.
Count Chocula "Switch Helper" cereal premium

It was meant to be hung over your light switch to help you find it by glowing in the dark. This was a cereal box premium from the mid 70s. I want to collect them all, but they are pretty rare. Luckily...I'm in no hurry! Still haven't decided if I wanna put the old Count to use on my man cave light switch!
Here is an example of a box from decades ago that had these inside as treats for eager cereal lovers!

So that's about that. Hope you enjoyed checking out my new additions to the Nerd Nook!

Best On Screen Pop Culture Romances

So I suppose love is in the air with Valentine's Day only two days away. I figured it's been a while since I posted a top 10 so I decided "what the heck, I'll do a top 10 pop culture/on screen romances" post. Well as I brainstormed this list I quickly realized 10 wasn't gonna hack it.....so this will just be a list of my favorites.....in no particular order.....here goes.....

Last minute addition......!
Jack T.  Colton and Joan Wilder from one of my all time favorite 80s movies!

"You're the best time I've ever had..."
"Never been anybody's best time before...."

#1 - Superman and Lois Lane
"yeah but who's got you!"

#2 - Batman and Vicki Vale
"You weigh a little more than 108...."

#3 - Han and Leia
 "I love you....."
"......I know"
(Classic line, classic scene, epic movie!)

#4 - King Kong and Ann Darrow
"it wasn't airplanes....It was beauty killed the beast..."

#5 - Rick and Ilsa
 "Here's looking at you, kid"

#6 - Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor
Travels back in time for this chick....nuff said....!

#7 - Maverick and Charlie
 "She's lost that lovin' feeling..."
"....I hate it when she does that!"

#8 - Neo and Trinity
A bit much with all the black leather....but made the list nonetheless....
"he is the one....."

#9 - Indiana Jones and Marion
"well god damn it Jones, where doesn't it hurt!"

#10 - Elliot and the girl from Science class
Love this scene and this movie!

#11 - Batman and Catwoman (Selena Kyle)
"Mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it..."
"....a kiss can be even deadlier, if you mean it..."

#12 - Rocky and Adrian
 "where's your hat?"

#13 - Johnny Castle and Baby
"nobody puts Baby in a corner!"
I owe this addition to my wife. I ran through the list with her before typing it out and she pretty much freaked that I hadn't included this couple on my list! So here they are!

#14 - George and Lorraine McFly
 "you are my density"

#15 - Peter Venkman and Dana Barrett
 "are you the Keymaster?"

Finally #16 - Forrest Gump and Jenny
"we was just like peas and carrots again..."

So that does it for my list of pop culture lovin' (I'm sure I missed some...)......Hope you enjoyed this list of iconic couples!

The League Has Spoken - Things You Love.....

"Write a stream of conscious post listing the things you love and hold dear. "
......I love quoting my favorite movies, the feeling I get when I hear a theme by John Williams, and looking up at the sky on clear winter nights....

I love trips to Toys R Us, my weekly breakfast with my big brother, and looking at old pictures.....
I love my man cave.....
....and being reminded of simpler times....
I love attending toy shows, talking about Star Wars, and collecting rare Super Powers figures....
I love sushi, those rare days when you wake up in the morning knowing you have a day full of endless possibilities none of which include going to work, summer time, "Sweet Freedom" by Michael McDonald, buying old stuff that reminds me of being a kid, seeing movies on Friday nights, talking about space and the universe, telling my students about people and events of importance.....
 Gene Cernan (my favorite Astronaut)

I love TGIF shows from the 90s, reading pop culture blogs, Michael Keaton's Batman and Christopher Reeve's Superman.....
I love the themes for each Indy film, anything that reminds me of being a kid, being "the guy who makes everyone else nostalgic", being overly deep, thinking about things way too much, associating pop culture with times in my life, my Nerd Nook, my collection, and of course my wife, family, one year old niece (who I adore)....
 and my two dogs!
I also loved this league assignment!
Fore more league lovin' check out....

Toy Spotlight - Toy Fair 2013

So as most toy collectors know Toy Fair 2013 is currently underway. There has been some pretty interesting news coming out so far including previews of upcoming LEGO sets, Masters Classics figures as well as the highly anticipated Castle Greyskull, Star Wars Black Series, and news about Neca's 1/4 scale figures to be released.
Here's what I'm most excited for....
Star Wars Black Series (will be released in 6 inch and 3 3/4 inch)
Darth Maul's Head is removable, giving you the ability to display him in his Sith cloak.

Neca's 1/4 scale 1989 Batman figure
This figure will be a whopping 18inches tall and, in my opinion, easily gives Hot Toys a run for their money. And at only 84 bucks, it is way more affordable. Mine is already preordered!
Neca 1/4 scale Adam West Batman
I am tempted to add this to the preorders. Super Unique and awesome!

So needless to say there are some sweet new toys coming out this year! I'm really excited about the Black Series. It's been years since I collected Star Wars figures. They have just gotten too carried away with their action figures. Too many lines, too many characters....just too much. I'm hoping with the Black series they will stream line their collectibles a bit. As for that Batman, I was always tempted to get the Hot Toys version but with this who needs it!?

Iconic Picture Spotlight - Brave Little Toaster

Totally loved this movie as a kid. Wish I could be a 8 again on this rainy Monday laying on the living room carpet watching this!
